Airbus executive says he’s confident hydrogen-powered planes can fly by 2035

Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury says he’s confident the hydrogen-powered plane will be ready for service in 2035.

He says hydrogen is made for aviation. As one of the biggest contributors to global warming, the airline industry has been under pressure to cut its carbon footprint.

Faury says the industry can’t reach its objectives alone, noting both state and regulatory support are needed. In spite of a number of technical challenges, however, the goal of increasing the share of sustainable aviation fuel by 10 per cent by 2030 is achievable.
